Una mela al giorno… fa la pelle del divano

An apple a day… keeps the sofa's skin away

It is known that apples are good for the body, but what you might not expect is that their waste can be used to produce vegan imitation leather.

Just as almond milk is not obtained by milking plants, vegan leather is not obtained by stripping the bark off plants, but rather by reusing the waste from apple processing, especially cores and peels, obtaining an excellent product suitable for any type of use.

Cartamela and Appleskin: two Made In Italy products

Italian innovation is showcased by Frumat, a company based in Bolzano, which has undergone significant evolution. Originally, it was a small chemical company specializing in the study of innovative materials from grape and blueberry waste in a sustainable way.

Although initial results were not promising, everything changed when they decided to valorize local apple waste, a widespread practice in that area. This waste, considered special waste, would have ended up in landfills or incinerated.
The first experiments yielded extraordinary results.

Cartamela

Cartamela was the first paper made from apple residues to enter the market. Ivory in color, it is recycled and fully recyclable. It is used in the creation of packaging, bags, stationery, diaries, tissues, and toilet paper. With a pleasant texture to the touch, it offers performance comparable to other high-quality papers and is also ideal for printing.

It is a sustainable paper suitable for companies that promote values of eco-sustainability and environmental awareness.

Appleskin

Appleskin has revolutionized the apparel, footwear, and high-end furniture sectors with its innovative vegan imitation leather. This product is, in fact, 100% vegan and cruelty-free, using apple waste to create a high-quality, high-performance product.

Apple peels and cores are dried, powdered, and mixed with polyurethane and cotton to obtain the finished imitation leather, which stands out for its sustainability and ecological characteristics.

Recyclable and eco-friendly, these two environmentally friendly products are created from fruit waste!

Have you ever considered that apples could also contribute to the good of the planet, in addition to your well-being?
